I have chosen for my A-level Media studies to create a music video over the song 'Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts'.

We chose this song amongst others for a number of reasons, firstly we all wanted to do a song by this Artist but as they were signed on a major label with a number of successful hits it helped us limit our options to a handful of songs.

The lyrics in the song are very informal and almost talk to the audience, this would suite us well as we can already get a picture of what our video will be like and be able to promote this onto the audience. The lyrics are also very young and modern, people of our age can understand this so we won't have any troubles expressing certain moods and feelings were as we would of if perhaps we were to do a much already video.

The band i have chosen are very established, they're liked by many including us and we as youths can usually relate to a lot of their music which would be another important factor upon our choice of this video.

Furthermore the song is the right length for us to make a video, we don't want something that lasts forever as we wouldn't be able to keep in the story properly equally in contrast we don't want something too short as we wouldn't be able to express ourselves properly

Arctic Monkeys are from England so again we would be able to produce a suitable music video for our coursework without needing to adjust local surroundings too much.

Inspirations

The theme for my video has been inspired by a lot of music videos produced for the Indie genre, even more specifically for the British artists in the Indie genre. Artists such as:

They're videos are all usually upbeat, loud and directed towards the younger generations. Each band or artist usually has a band or at least a guitar in the video at some point just too inform the audience of which genre they are and what they stand for.

What roles will i play in the music video.
I will be playing the role of an extra in the music video if needed. Mike the other member of the duo will also be used as a extra.

We will be directing the video making sure its up to a good quality standard, we will use college cameras to film the video as well and will film both the narrative and the band on location.

It is important that we film the band in the right ways to ultimatley frame the band in the right representation.

In my Media lessons i have learnt correct Media terminology that i should be using.

Genre - The classification of any media text into a category or type.

Representation - The process by which an image etc may be used to represent/stand for someone or something.

Discourse - The expression of ideologies or speech used to achieve social, personal or political power.

Media Institution – The operation of a large media corporation embracing production, distribution and consumption

Mis-en-scene – Everything that is put in a TV studio or film set

Narrative - The way in which a plot or story is told, by whom and in what order.

Form – The structure or skeleton of a text

Ideology - A system of beliefs/values, which can be identified in mass media products or texts.

Denotation - The common sense, obvious meaning of something.

Connotation - Associations triggered by eg. an image or an object.

Storyboard

Here is my storyboard for my Music Video. I will follow this and use it as a guide for the video to give me a rough idea of how the video will turn out and what type of shots i should be taking and where. It will allow me to look ahead into the future and plan my time carefully so that i can balance time between editting the music video, making it and evaulating it as iam aware that adding effects and cutting the video will take time too.

The drawings are fairly simple. There are 24 scenes in the music video and it should fit in time with the music video which should be between 2 minutes 50 seconds and 3 minutes.

I have included a varity of shots too keep the music video interesting, i want to entertain the audience. I have used a mixture of close up shots and long range shots. The close up shots i have used represent emotion and the long distance shots establish the scene and the area, it also creates a bigger picture effect that i could work with in effects. I will use zooms to move between close range and further distance shots. I have used a point of view shot (PoV) to show expresions of the actors within the music video. This will help to explain the storyline and hidden messages that i would like to include within the Music Video.

The music video includes half narrative and half of the band playing, i will cut to the band playing at the chorus. This shows continuity with other Arctic Monkey music videos.

I will need to cut between the band and narrative at a fast pace because the song itself is quite upbeast and loud. For it to make sense and to fit in with the Indie music genre, i will need to keep the pace of the cutting in context with the pace of the song itself. For this i might need to speed the video up in parts or equally slow it down, this can all be done on effects.
