Change - Plan B.

After filming some scenic shots on the Seafront in Seaford and completing some of the criteria we realised the footage was unusable.

The actor we were using as 'the bigger boy' was unable to finish filming and so therefore we had to alter our plans at the last minute. We will still film back on the beach but i have taken over the role of being the 'smaller boy' and Mike my filming partner has taken over the role of playing the 'bigger boy'.

Although now we have reliable actors and we still have clear ideas and are on time we have found another problem. With both students who are filming being actors we are going to have to set the shot up and then get into the scene therefore not being able to adjust the shot as we were acting. Unfortunately with our music video being very narrative we are going to have to adjust and adapt to the change.

Problem two.

After completing my digipak and evaluating it, the actor i was going to use as the lead singer has backed out of the music video. So now i have taken over the lead role as well as a cameraman for the music video and so therefore i will have to adjust the digipak so that it makes sense with the music video.

There is a wall shot on Seaford beach that i will take a photo of and edit the text there i will use this for the front cover of the digipak and for the poster, i will then reedit it and re evaluate it hopefully before the deadline!

New photos

Here are the new photos i will be using for my digipak and for the advert poster.

This is the first shot i will be using for my digipak. The majority of the shot shows the sea with great albedo giving great lighting and colours. It was shot later in the day and is features the smaller boy. The darkness reflects the anger and his loss of the girl. The actor is facing away from the camera and it gives a silhouette type effect.

After editting the photo on photoshop i have now used this picture as my front cover. I have used the fonts Masterplan and Orial both of which can be found on http://www.dafont.com/.

Masterplan

Orial

I had coloured the fonts so that it matched the rest of my digipak. The red representing love and romance although it can also be portrayed as anger and rage as in the video one of the two boys loses out. The other font is white, white firstly works well with red and it contrasts the black found on other parts of the digipak.

Here is my finished front cover image for my Digipak.

It is simple and the photo is very suggestive which takes up the main theme of the image. The title over the top is colourful and bright so it stands out and the character in the picture again relates to my target audience therefore it is relevent. The picture i was going to use is found below.

The differnt colours for my image, even though i personally thought it looked nice didnt make sense with the rest of the digipak therefore had to be discarded.

Here is another photograph that i will be using for my Digipak. It will be located opposite the CD and will be left untouched for a number of reasons. Firstly i think leaving the picture as it is provokes thought. The picture itself establish's the age of my target audience and the clothing links the character to the genre. The sea is in the background and as i have previously spoke about shows the band being taken into a new direction (on the coast).

My third photo that i have had to change is this one. It is the photograph i will be using for my advertisement. As there are only two of us filming and we're both now playing parts in the music video, we have found it hard and quite a struggle to be able to take all the shots we wanted too. So for this shot we set the camera up and it gave us 6 seconds to get into position for the shot. I like it and will use it for my advertisement because after researching other posters that other bands in the same genre had been doing i needed a photo that shows the two actors standing either side of the photo and leaving a nice background to allow for text and photo edditing. The clothing is that which can be found in the music video, which is aimed towards our target audience. I will edit the photo using photoshop and add text to it. I will get fonts from www.dafont.com. I will add the 'greyscale' effect to the image and put it into black and white, but i will change the colour of the font to red and white, i will try and add some black fonts in there somewhere.

Redone Digipak.

Here is my digipak that has some of the pictures i have reviewed here incorporated. As you can see the two other pictures, the back cover and the cd cover are the ones that i was going to use on the original Digipak. I much prefer the colour scheme of primarly black, white and red. The colours are fairly masculine and relate to the target audience of the Arctic Monkeys.

The digipak is quite dark and generally gives off an aggressive feel. This can be found in the music in the track that we had created a music for. Equally the calm sea contrasts this.

The fonts i had used were:

Bebas

This was the font that is coloured red down the spine of the digipak. I chose this font because firstly and perhaps most importantly its easy to read. Secondly its quite bold and interesting so it will stand out from other CD covers. Finally its got a rock feel to it so it blends in well with the rest of the digipak.

Bleeding Cowboys.

This is a very arcane style font i found it exciting. I used it on the backcover and on the cd case. I used different size fonts and different colours to make it a little bit more intersting. Again it fits into the indie / rock genre, but its not generic its something a bit different and thats what i was looking for to use in my Digipak.

The other two fonts that i had used were those that i had talked about earlier on in this section of the blog.

The programme i had used to make my digipak was Adobe Photoshop.

This is a screenshot of when the digipak had been finished and all the pictures and text had been put into place. On the right side the layers tool (shown below) allows me select what layer i want to edit and what effects i want to place onto that layer.

To add a image to i went into file and clicked place, using the digipak template i had made i then placed the image ontop. Shown below are some screenshots showing the step by step of how i used the place tool.

.

Other photo's taken.

This one was taken on Seaford beach at the location of filming for the music video. It features Mike playing posing as the bigger boy, and Jodie the female actor playing as the girl that everyone is fighting over in the music video. I like this photo because it has great lighting and nice contrast. Furthermore i like the way that half of the photo is the blue sky with clouds and such in it and the way it contrasts with the sea. With the lighting being natural and on a bright day, the shadows also work well in the picture, however if i was to take the shot again i would make his face clearer and more visable. I havnt found a place to put this on my digipak yet but i will use it as a backup image incase others don't work.

Planning to the Deadline.

I have realised that the deadline is coming very close so i have set myself targets.

Week 1 - Edit log and capture, this will take me one lesson.

Week 2 - Assembly edit - This will take me at least one lesson, possibly two.

Week 3 - Rough cut and tightning edits and syncing the music to the video, one lesson.

Week 4 - Add any effects, one lesson and time outside to experiment.

Week 5 - Final cut - One or two lessons and may need to book computers for outside of lesson time too.

Week 6 - Deadline. All coursework must be finished and ready to hand in at this point, i will need to export my video to quicktime and upload it onto blogger.

Laptops can only be booked from 1pm on wednesday providing there is space to use them in the TV room so i must plan all my time efficently.

Advert flatplans

I have drawn up three possible ideas I'd like to use as a poster advert to promote the 'Arctic Monkey's single 'Bigger boys and Stolen Sweethearts'.

Poster one

This is my first drafted flat plan as a possible idea for the music video. Its a drawing of the landscape at where the video of the band will be shot. I chose to use this so that the reader and viewer can also understand and relate it to the music video if they had seen it before, or if they haven't they would understand where it was and get a feeling of what it is about.

The colours of the beach hut on the seafront are naturally bright, so i decided to use these in the poster to catch the eye of a possible viewer. They are also in the video again allowing people to attach and connect with the video. All the doors of the beach hut are in bright green because this isn't found anywhere else on the picture and it stands out.

I have composed the picture so that its to be hung horizontally, the writing is on the left and the picture of the huts going across from halfway to the upper right hand corner. I noticed this was much alike with a lot of the adverts i had researched and was common to be found in adverts, furthermore a lot of the readers will naturally be reading from left to right so i thought I'd use this to my advantage and put everything a possible viewer would need to know about the album first on the left side.

I have drawn 'Arctic Monkey's quite large so it grabs peoples attention, this is to clarify who the band are and to be interesting. It is on a blue background which represents the sky, furthermore blue is generally a masculine colour and my target audience is primarily male so having a blue background not only makes the font stand out here it works well to appeal to the audience. The rest of the text tells us when the CD is released and the title of the song, it also gives a link to where the song can be found.

Poster two

This is the second poster i have drawn up that i could use as a guide for my advert that i will be designing. Although the background colour is much the same as the sky themed background of the poster above, i chose it for different reasons. Firstly because it contrasts the colour of the title well and secondly because its aesthetically pleasent to look at furthermore again as mentioned earlier my target audience are males so this would link well with them.

I have a much bigger bolder red text in this picture. This is to grab the attention of a possible viewer better. It shares the same information as the poster above. The character in the picture would be the lead singer from the 'Arctic Monkeys', he is holding a guitar, naturally people will relate the guitar to the rock genre and fitting my target audience again. His clothing is bright and fashionable to that genre, again trying to entice people into the poster.

The fonts are in different colours so that its interesting and not too bland they both contrast the blue background again. There is also a smaller picture of the album in the poster again, i gained this idea from researching other posters as shown below with the Katy Perry advert.

Poster 3

Poster three is a picture of the 'Arctic Monkeys' on Seaford beach. This in my opinion will be the most clear out of all 3 of who the band are and what they are promoting, however it could also be seen as quite dull and possibly not as interesting as the others.

I have used bright colours to make the picture stand out, for example a yellow drum kit. The text is a bright red colour with a bold font, again contrasting a blue background. The red colour represents subtle love because after all the music is all about a smaller boy who cant get ahold of a girl that he really likes. The colours arnt really connected with any gender, there are alot of greens and yellows which are bright but also quite neutral so therefore i don't move away from my target audience, furthermore it doesn't offend the minority's who buy the Arctic Monkeys, for example the small proportion of teenage girls.

The text mentions when the CD will be released and where information can be found again i have linked my blogger address to the poster underneath in a finer smaller font. I have split the page into almost two different sections and composed it, so that the top half is text heavy and the viewer can read downwards onto the picture of the band. It has, like the other two posters, been designed to be aligned on a wall horizontally.

Advert

As part of my course i have been asked to create a advert for my Media music video to do this i will need to take a few more photos for the poster and i will relate it to my music video.

I will use a poster to advertise my music video following these dimensions:

Full Page - 210mm height x 148mm width Half Page Horizontal - 100mm height x 141mm width
Half Page Vertical - 204mm height x 70mm width
1/4 Page - 100mm height x 70mm width
1/4 Page horizontal - 50mm height x 141mm width

It will need to link to my target audience of men age 15 - 44 as found by researching demographics below. It will also need to fit in well with the band's genre again, who's buying it and what the band stands for. My music video was set on the beach again so i will incorporate the rough beachy look and the dress sense of the people in the music video will be suitable.

To get a feeling and understanding about the poster i will have to look at other peoples to find what lay outs work and what don't. It will also show me understanding on how to attract an audience.

Here is the promotional poster for a popular female music artist who is a chart singer with a target audience of young people aged from 15 - 30.

So i can see that there is a nice large picture in the background, its colourful and interesting stimulating interest. The dress code makes sense with the font colours and the background. The font is big enough to read and of different size's, the white and red font contrasts the background well and is easily readable. There is a picture of the CD cover on the poster. The artist is wearing the same clothing as she is in both the promotional poster and the CD cover. The text includes information about her website at which she can be found and a popular well-know song from the album, its simple but it leaves the audience wanting more.

The Kooks are a English band in the same genre as the Arctic Monkeys. Even though they are from different geographical locations but the target audience could be much the same.

The first thing that stands out to me in the neon lit blue light establishing the name of the music album. The band members are standing under the light not posing, in a every day to day body stance promotion a not-caring attitude, much like what i want to create with the Arctic Monkeys. The text is the same as that on the album cover, i had researched found below. This can establish connections and people can gain understanding. They are dressed casually, almost as if they were just going out to the local pub with a few friends, again i think this image is great because the poster promotes the genre well.

The chosen dimensions for my advert will be 'Half Page Vertical - 204mm height x 70mm width'.
